The movement and combat in Delver’s Drop are based on a unique physics system, designed to make the most fluid and tight 2D action game possible. Every character, enemy, object, and environmental effect in the game interact based on this system, and have properties for mass, friction, velocity, acceleration, and bounciness. This opens up a variety of tactical approaches for solving puzzles, defeating your foes, and turning the environment to your advantage.

Every playthrough, every room discovered, every descent to your ultimate unknown goal is a unique experience through the miracle of Pixelscopic’s patented Randungeonization™. Delver’s Drop makes each dungeon dive unique by randomizing the dungeon each time you die. Some experience, progress, and completed rooms will remain intact, but the dungeon will shift into a new layout for a totally different experience. Likewise, the class you play and the choices you make affect what happens and what parts of the story unfold in any given journey down the Drop.

  • Explore a shifting maze where each adventure is different, and requires players to rely on their wits and skill to overcome the odds
  • Enjoy endless replay value – there’s always the potential for something truly surprising through the next door
  • Dungeon navigation becomes strategic in itself — solve multi-dimensional puzzles that affect the layout and traversal of rooms

DUBIOUS HEROES & DASTARDLY FOES

Play as one of several classes of imprisoned miscreants – Rogues, Sorcerers, Gladiators, and more. Each has unique movement properties, weapons, perks, and special abilities. Individual “heroes” are somewhat expendable, since each time one dies another is thrown down The Drop. But accomplishments and experience for each class are shared across adventures.

…which is a good thing as you’ll need all the help you can get to survive. Enemies come in all shapes and sizes, many rooms are laced with devious traps and puzzles, and even the very architecture itself shifts in attempts to guard its secrets.

Nice looking mini-rpg, it's inspiring to me!

I have 2 questions:

First, have you thought of differentiating weapons somewhat more than looks and cost? I like that the class HD decides the damage, but I feel there is something lacking when comparing axes, swords, maces and staffs.

Second, what fonts are you using in the document? I like it/them!

Thanks!

So the weapons are somewhat different, and some of that comes out during roleplay.

  • The mace is a good weapon for a cleric since it's bludgeoning. No swords, axes or spears for the cleric
  • The staff doubles as a walking stick - you wouldn't deprive an old man of his staff?
  • A sword is great, but if you ever want to chop wood out in the wilderness, you'll want an axe.

The fonts are Essays173 (body) and Blackletter (title). I agree - I love them!

Great work! I find myself more gravitated toward class-less systems, however, your brief, open, and straightforward approach is a great way to handle them. Also, really digging the additions of the simplified bloodlines and monster stat blocks.

Just finished up my first session! Had a lot of fun! Decided to run a proper 'dungeon-crawl' with it, which is something our group doesn't really do ever. We had a lot of fun though! The adventurers were tasked with escorting a child king through the sewers of the city to escape a deadly plot! Unfortunately the king died, but at least the adventurers came out mostly whole!
We played it just as a one-shot as a change of pace from our ongoing campaign, but we decided it was a lot of fun and we are going to play it now and then for 'holiday' quests, like for Halloween etc. The only thing I would change from this session is the level of player characters. Because the players had so few HP at first level, it made most creatures very deadly! Perhaps this was intentional, but for next time I will start players off maybe third level or so. Perhaps encounters were so deadly because of the party the players put together; we had 2 Pathfinders and 1 Warrior, which is not the most varied in the world.

Overall though, we all had a lot of fun for a couple of hours, which is what this is all about at the end of the day, so thank you for putting this together! :)

Thanks James, I'm glad you had fun and I appreciate you taking the time to comment. On deadliness, absolutely meant to be a feature rather than a bug. I borrowed a guideline from Searchers of the Unknown where it's unlikely that a PC will actually 'die' but more likely be knocked unconscious or captured, which makes things a lot more forgiving.

Yeah I saw that comment in the rules and thought so. As the adventure we played was a fairly deadly one (going through a sewer and fighting the creatures within), I decided when a character was slain, I had them be 'winded'. They could perform a physical save to catch their breath, but could otherwise move at half speed and still perform some actions etc. Still really fun though! Thanks!

Love it! Any suggestions for how much xp to reward for slaying monsters? I have always struggled with that.

Also there looks to be an extra 'a' in 'Unaarmed' under Weapons. Although this may refer to being armed with an 'Una' which I am totes cool with.

Thanks for this. I've just updated the doc with xp values for these monsters. These are based on the BX system of xp to HD.

Awesome! Cheers for that. I hadn't seen that system before, it's quite handy.
